Justin Bieber Got Violated But We All Laughed

Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber

Hey, remember Justin Bieber? Canadian heartthrob who made millions of teenage girls scream with excitement and cry emotionally?

Well, maybe you remember him because he was recently in the news for all the wrong reasons. A picture of him standing on a balcony in Bora Bora was leaked on the internet. What’s wrong with that? Well, the picture got heavy rotation because apparently, Justin Bieber was in the nude and his crown jewels were exposed.

If you happened to be on social media at that time, it spread like wild fire. There was so much mockery and a lot of jokes were made at his expense.

But I didn’t laugh. I didn’t even bother to look. To be honest, I was disappointed in how the public took this story.

Here’s how the headlines should have been written when the picture came out:

Justin Bieber’s Privacy Violated

So why all the mockery? I think maybe the fact that it was Justin Bieber, troubled child star who has had some problems in his past such as illegally drag racing a Lamborghini in the streets, pissing in public, assault charges and a host of other stuff which have given him negative press.

So I guess when someone in the public sphere is not well liked, that gives us license to make fun of him no matter the circumstance it seems.

Let’s change the situation. How would you feel if someone took a picture of you, or your wife or significant other in their nudity and had the picture leaked online? What if it was a public figure that we respected (maybe like Jennifer Lawrence or Angeline Jolie)? I suspect that there would be a bit more outrage, don’t you think?

Speaking of Jennifer Lawrence, remember when her private pictures got leaked online (The Fappening)?

I remember a lot of outrage and discussions about privacy and women’s rights. So how come Bieber doesn’t get the same treatment? It wasn’t his cellphone that got hacked but his privacy was definitely violated.

Is there some kind of sexism going on here? I guess that’s a debate for another day.

Whether you like him or not, the point still stands: Justin Bieber’s privacy was violated and we all mocked him and it was wrong.
