Another Republican debate was held yesterday and in the aftermath, it seems Donald Trump left unscathed.
Donald Trump and Ted Cruz, the only other candidate making head way, both have opinion polls locked in a tight struggle to win the Feb. 1 Iowa caucuses. The other candidates are still trying to gain traction but keep getting left behind.
It’s strange how an individual like Donald Trump, an person who seems to be very brash, xenophobic and racist seems to continue getting the votes of the Republican base. This has some left some in the Republican base a bit worried because the establishment candidates like Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio are doing little to slow either man’s momentum.
“The mainstream Republicans are as splintered and scattered as ever,” one republican insider said.
“More and more, this is coming down to a two-man race. The polling, the support, it is more and more looking like it is Donald Trump and me,” Cruz said in an interview on the Fox Business Network after the debate.
If that’s the case, Republicans might have to face the reality that Donald Trump might actually be the Republican nominee for the 2016 election and his likely Democratic opponent might be Hillary Clinton.
A few months ago, many would have laughed off the possibility of Donald Trump being the Republican nominee. But as the poll numbers keep coming back in support of Trump, it’s actually not funny anymore. Even Republicans don’t like it. It also speaks volumes that Republican voters want a person like Donald Trump to be the president of America. That’s scary when you think about it.
Just imagine Donald Trump being the president of the United States. Go ahead and imagine. If that doesn’t frighten you, it should.
But as far as the whole country is concerned, I don’t think the majority of Americans would want that.
